A FORMER Royal Navy sailor has been convicted of killing his girlfriend’s baby.
Richard Morgan, 32, has been found guilty of the manslaughter of 13-month-old Slater Sharkey at his home in Tantobie, County Durham.
Newcastle Crown Court heard the baby was covered from head to toe in 25 bruises when his lifeless body was taken to hospital in December 2010.
A jury of nine women and three men arrived at a unanimous guilty verdict after six hours of deliberation.
Slater’s mother, Rachel Peacock, was acquitted of a charge of allowing the death of a child, but convicted of one count of child cruelty.
Both are to be sentenced tomorrow morning (Wednesday).
