CHRISTIANS saw out the old year with a traditional procession through a city’s streets.
Durham Churches Together, which includes churches of various denominations from across the city, staged an early evening New Year’s Eve procession from Durham Market Place up to Durham Cathedral.
Children carried candles and lanterns along the route, protecting them as best they could against the wintry weather.
The procession was followed by a New Year’s Eve service in the Cathedral. The preacher was Sister Jane Middleton, formerly of the Methodist Church’s Westminster Central Hall.
