POLICE are appealing for information after a woman reported being raped in a North-East park.

The incident took place at about 9.30pm on Thursday (December 27) in Westgate Park on Rectory Lane in Guisborough, east Cleveland.

The victim, a local woman in her 40s, was walking on a raised grassed area of the park between a beck and Howden’s depot. 

Cleveland Police said tonight (Monday, December 31) that she was struck from behind and knocked to the ground, where the sex attack took place.

The attacker is described as a white male of medium build. He was wearing a dark hooded top and dark jogging bottoms with stripes down the legs.

Detective Constable Matthew Waterfield said: “I would like to hear from anyone who may have been in the area of the park around this time or anyone who feels they have information about the attacker or incident.”
