New Year health pack launched
THE British Heart Foundation charity has launched a free New Year New You health pack, including advice about diet, physical activity, quitting smoking and healthy lifestyles. It comes as research suggests North-East people are likely to have consumed as much salt as contained in 50 packets of crisps and more saturated fat than half a pack of lard on Christmas Day alone. WOMAN INJURED: A 33-year-old woman suffered a small puncture wound to her chest during an incident at a house on Amherst Road, Fawden, Newcastle, early on New Year’s Day. Police were called at about 1.15am. The woman was treated at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary before being released. Northumbria Police are investigating the incident.
STEP FORWARD: The Church of England is running a Step Forward event for people considering entering Anglican ministry at Bishopthorpe Palace, in York, on Saturday, March 9, from 11am to 4pm. ANNUAL MEETING: Crossgate Community Partnership, in Durham City, will hold its annual general meeting on Tuesday, January 8, at 7.45pm, beginning with a Police and Communities Together (Pact) meeting. It will be held at North Road Methodist Church, North Road, Durham.

ROBBERY ARREST: A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery following an armed robbery of a Ladbrokes betting shop on Front Street, Seaton Burn, North Tyneside, on Saturday, December 29. Northumbria Police enquiries are continuing.
KNIFEPOINT BURGLARY: A man was threatened with a knife during a burglary at his home. A crook forced his way into the house, on White Mere Gardens, in Gateshead, late on New Year’s Eve. He threatened the resident with a knife before running off. Police believe nothing was stolen. A 39-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of aggravated burglary. Enquiries are ongoing.
