POLICE have warned motorists to lock their vehicles after a spate of thefts from insecure cars.

Officers in Darlington have reminded drivers not to leave valuable items on show in their vehicles, and not to leave their vehicle unattended with the engine running on cold mornings.

The warning comes after reports of thefts from cars in the Darlington area during December.

A spokesman said: “People need to ensure that their vehicles are always left secure, even if they are left for a matter of moments.

“Drivers can also reduce opportunities for criminals by removing any personal belongings, and if they see anything suspicious, call 101.”
