AN engineer will lose his job after being caught drink driving, a court has heard.

Stephen Andrew Heslop from Sedgefield admitted driving his Fiat Scudo van while almost twice the drink limit when he appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecutor Blair Martin said Heslop, 37, of Cunningham Court, was pulled over by police at around 10pm on December 21, when he ignored the patrol car’s right of way when going through a chicane on Whitehouse Drive in Sedgefield.

He was found to have 62mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, the legal limit is 35mcg.

The court heard that Heslop was also convicted of drink driving in 2008.

John Clish in mitigation said Heslop, who works as an engineer and responds to 24-hour emergency call outs, will now lose his job.

He said: “That will be the biggest punishment of all.”

Heslop was banned from driving for three years and ordered to pay £130 in fines.
