YOUNG musicians are preparing to showcase their skills at a special event being organised as part of this year's Darlington Folk Club Springthing festival.

This year's festival takes place in March and a special showcase event is planned for the first night.

It is being organised by Andy Yeadon, music zone manager at the TCR Hub, in Barnard Castle.

Among those taking part will be five-piece folk rockers Friday Escape, who are honing their skills at The Hub's extensive music facilities.

The group – Olivia Galloway, 16, Lizzie Knight, 16, Charlotte Threasher, 16, Jack Holguin, 17, and Tom Stanier, 18 – have got together over the last ten months and are busy writing their own original material ready for the showcase.

Mr Yeadon said as well as Friday Escape and other musicians who use The Hub as their base, the showcase event would feature youngsters from Darlington and around the county.

“There will be about ten acts – I am quite excited about them,” he said.

The Springthing Festival takes place from Macrh 20-24. More details are online at www.darlingtonfolkclub.com
