Appeal after man has his jaw broken

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an attack in which a 39-year-old man from Northallerton had his jaw broken.

He was assaulted at about half past midnight on Saturday, December 22 after a Christmas night out in the town.

The victim was attacked by another man on the corner of East Road and Friarage Street, opposite the Kwik-fit depot.

His jaw was broken in two places and he had to undergo extensive surgery which meant his jaw has had to be wired for several weeks.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the assault and witnessed the attack or the moments leading up to it, to come forward.

Detective Constable Scott Nugent of Northallerton CID, said: “This was a nasty assault which left the victim with serious facial injuries resulting in surgery, nerve damage and him being only able to eat liquidised food for six weeks.

“It’s important that anyone who saw what happened, including the lead up to the incident, contacts the police to help us establish exactly what happened.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.
