A MANUFACTURING company in Newton Aycliffe has raised £7,000 for a cancer care and support charity.
Tallent Automotive named Macmillan Cancer Support as its chosen charity for 2012 and, for the last 12 months, staff have donated money from their wages to the cause.
Fundraising events were also held to raise further cash to support the charity, which provides practical, medical and financial support to families affected by cancer, as well as campaigning nationally for better care.
And, with more people living with cancer than ever before, demand for Macmillan’s services has never been greater.
Michelle Muir, fundraising manager at Macmillan, said donations like the contribution from Tallent were vital to the charity’s future, as almost 98 per cent of its income comes from voluntary giving.
She said she was delighted to accept the donation, adding: “I was not expecting this fantastic amount.
“It was a lovely surprise when they announced the amount they were handing over at the cheque presentation.”
Located on Aycliffe Business Park, Tallent Automotive designs and makes parts for leading car manufacturers.
The company set up its own Community Charity Committee in 2010 to support various causes.
