Army to close its Durham careers office
11:55am Tuesday 15th January 2013 in News
AN Army recruitment office is to close next month.
The Army Careers Information Office in Durham City is to close on February 1.
The premises in Claypath is the latest to go as part of an Army reorganisation of careers and recruitment work in response to new technology.
An increasing number of enquiries are now being received via computer and mobile phone, so the service is reducing its presence on the high street.
Area Recruiting Officer, Commander Regional Recruiting, Lieutenant Colonel Howard Newson said: "Army recruiting teams have been examining the way recruiting is done to make sure it is more efficient and effective.
"Although some offices on the high street are closing, we are stepping up our online presence to meet the demands of young recruits who are increasingly likely to use their smart phone or tablet device to contact us.
"The Army is still recruiting in Durham and there are jobs available now.
"I’d encourage anyone interested in knowing more to visit our website www.army.mod.uk or our careers offices in Sunderland or Newcastle, which will remain open."
