A CHARITY dance has raised thousands of pounds for two charities.

The Hurworth Christmas dance, held in the community centre in December, brought 165 people from the village together to celebrate the festive season.

Organisers Colin Ward, Jim Manning, Geoff Corner and Rod Fidell said they were delighted to raise £2,000, to be split between the Great North Air Ambulance and Macmillan Cancer Support, despite arranging the event at short notice.

Items for the raffle and cash donations were made by a number of businesses based in Hurworth.

The group presented cheques to Janet Hume, from the Great North Air Ambulance, and Kevin Richardson, from Macmillan Cancer Support, who expressed their thanks to the organisers and the audience for their fundraising effort.
