Sedgefield MP invites musicians to Rock the House
AN MP is calling for musicians and small venues to enter a nationwide contest that celebrates up-and-coming British artists.
Sedgefield MP Phil Wilson MP is urging bands, solo artists and live music venues within his constituency to enter Rock the House 2013.
Applications for the competition, which is organised by Parliament and backed by Queen guitarist Brian May, opened in November and closes on March 1.
Categories include: best solo artist, best band, best solo artist under 19 years, best band under 19 years and best small live music venue.
“Rock the House is a great opportunity for aspiring artists of any age looking to find a way into the industry,” said Mr Wilson.
“I am excited to listen to the tracks that the people of Sedgefield can come up with, and hope to receive as many submissions as possible.”
After receiving the entries, Mr Wilson will nominate his favourite from each category.
A judging panel made up of international music industry experts will then chose the finalists, who will compete in a live battle of the bands.
The winner of each category will then perform live on the balcony of the House of Commons on June 26.
Rock the House was founded by Mike Weatherley MP to raise awareness of intellectual property theft and live music issues in Parliament.
