By Steven Hugill
MEMBERS of a popular community orchestra are tuning up for an annual concert.
Darlington Orchestra will play its winter concert in the Dolphin Centre on Saturday, January 26, from 7.30pm.
The orchestra, which held its previous concert in the former Darlington Arts Centre in July, has built a stage in the Dolphin Centre’s Central Hall to host its 45-strong membership.
Conductor David Plews said: “We have been pleased by the good quality of the acoustic for orchestral music in the hall.
“The concert will be characterised by our usual diversity with the music of William Boyce, Brahms and Paul Simon.
“We are also excited to be working again with the fine Locomotion Children’s Choir and musical director, Nikki Lycett.”
Tickets cost between £4 and £6 from 01325-388406 or the reception in the Dolphin Centre.

Having eclectic tastes in music I've attended concerts in Central Hall ranging from classical orchestras to a Pink Floyd tribute band. The acoustics are fine for unamplified music. For heavily amplified material they are indeed exactly as you describe. They'll be fine for the orchestra, and the nineteeth century room with its chandeliers and paintings makes a fitting venue for such an event. I'm looking forward to going next Saturday.
