Youngsters picked for national football competition

TALENTED youngsters have been selected to represent the North of England in a national football competition.

Oliver Theakston, 12, of Northallerton, and Jack Hudson, 12, of Hurworth, have been picked.

The Barnard Castle School pupils were invited to attend a selection day at Sunderland High School last November.

They will now face other regional teams from around the country at Shrewsbury School in March in the hope of being selected to represent England at U13 level.

Manchester United fan Jack, who has played for Newcastle United’s academy, said: “It would be fabulous if I could represent my country and I’m grateful to school for giving me the opportunity.”

Prior to the tournament in Shrewsbury the North of England team will play a team from Sunderland Football Club’s academy.
