Riverside garden to enjoy Spring makeover

A POPULAR riverside garden is to be given a makeover in the spring.

Trees and bushes will be planted, benches installed and bark chippings laid on the ground at the village garden in Whorlton, near Barnard Castle.

The work is being carried out in a joint scheme by Whorlton Parish Council and the Heart of Teesdale Landscape Partnership.

Parish council chairman David Kinch said the garden was a popular spot with walkers.

“It is a nice place for them just to sit,” he said.

“What we are doing is planting a few trees and bushes, tidying it up, putting in some benches and making it a place for wild flowers to grow.”

The parish council has taken delivery of more than 100 trees and bushes for the project.

All the planting and other work will be carried out at the garden on Saturday, March 9, between 10am and 2pm.
