Plans to revamp children's play area to be debated
11:51am Sunday 20th January 2013 in News
PARISH councillors are being forced to rethink plans for the revamp of a children's play area.
Thousands of pounds had been promised for new equipment at the play park, at Whorlton, near Barnard Castle, which is currently situated behind the village hall.
The parish council leases the site from Castlebeck Care, owners of Whorlton Hall hospital. But a new long-term lease cannot be agreed and this has forced parish councillors to look for an alternative site in the village for the play park.
Parish council chairman David Kinch said it had been agreed at this month's meeting to write to the owner The Bridge Inn to ask if a plot of land at the back of the pub's car park would be available.
“We would need a lease for 10 or 20 years as funders always prefer a longer lease,” he said. “A children's playground is something every village should have and it would also help the pub as well if it was on the land at the back.”
