Diamond couple celebrate 60-years of marriage

A DIAMOND couple who met by chance at a dance are celebrating 60-years of marriage.
Arthur and Mary Rudd, of Watling Road, Bishop Auckland, are celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary tomorrow. (Monday, January 21)
Mr Rudd, 82, who worked at Shildon Railway Shops, met his wife, who was a shop assistant at Marks and Spencers, at a local dance.
They courted for a while and then were married at St Andrew’s Church, South Church, Bishop Auckland, on January 21, 1953.
Mary Rudd, the couple’s granddaughter, said: “It’s quite an achievement and it’s great that they have been married for so long.
“Not many people can say that they have had such a long and happy marriage.”
The couple have son Michael and daughter Lynn plus granddaughters Mary and Stephanie and grandson Billy.
The family are to celebrate with a family party at the couple’s home tomorrow. (January 21)
