Insight into medieval hunting

A TALK on hunting in the Middle Ages is to be held in Northallerton next month.

The story of the original sport of medieval kings – hunting – will be told by academic Richard Almond in Northallerton on Tuesday, February 12.

Mr Almond, who has published books and articles on hunting, hawking and fishing in the era, is to give an illustrated talk on the subject for Northallerton and District Local History Society.

It will focus on how central hunting was to medieval societies, both as an economic necessity and as an illustration of their connection with nature. He will also explain how hunting was enjoyed by all social classes and by women as well as men.

The illustrated presentation will take place at 7pm at the Sacred Heart Church Hall on Thirsk Road, where limited parking is available. Non-members are welcome at a nominal admission charge of £2.50, while students under-18 will be admitted free.
