TALENTED hair and beauty students are preparing to compete in the region’s biggest hairdressing contests.
Teams from New College Durham are to compete against nine other colleges at the Association of Hairdressers and Therapists competition held at the Federation Brewery, in Gateshead, on February 11.
There will be 13 categories including Classical Make-Up, Blow Dry, and Commercial Nail Art. However, the main attraction will be the Total Team Look Presentation, with an ‘Anything Goes’ theme, which will take place at 3pm and allows teams to demonstrate a range of skills.
Models from each team will have their hair, make-up and costume styled by their team mates, ready to perform a choreographed dance routine of two minutes.
The regional award winners, as chosen by a judging panel made up of industry experts, will go on to the national finals to be held at Blackpool Winter Gardens in March.
Competition Director and New College lecturer Lindsay Deswert said: "This event is an excellent opportunity for our students to experience the thrill of competing and to demonstrate the skills they have gained and to express their creativity.
"It also complements their learning and gives them a real confidence boost. Our students always produce competition work to an extremely high standard and we are hoping to do well again this year."
Admission to the event is £5 and further details are available from Lindsay Deswert on 0191 375 4288.
