Boris the lurcher is loving life in the last chance saloon

FOR Boris the lurcher, a Barnard Castle pub really was the last chance saloon.

Two efforts to rehome the six-month-old lurcher cross failed – and he only ended up at the Coach and Horses, in Galgate, because the regulars convinced licensee Dave Marsh the pub needed its own dog.

Dave, 40, admits he had to be convinced that bringing in a pub pooch was a sound business move.

Dave and wife Ann took over the Coach and Horses last August but it was October before Boris moved in.

“When we got the pub, Ann suggested we should get a dog but I thought we had enough on just running the pub.

“But then the regulars all started saying that the pub needed a dog and that I had to go and get one.”

Dave took Boris from the Dogs Trust rehoming centre at Sadberge, near Darlington.

“Now the regulars pay far more attention to Boris than they do to me – he seems to be a vital ingredient at the pub,” he said.
