Charity encourages people to set goals for 2013
A CHARITY is encouraging people with a learning disability through their New year, New me campaign in Darlington to set goals for 2013.
Last year, Mencap launched their annual New year, New me campaign, which is designed to challenge and inspire people with a learning disability to set themselves personal goals that can make a positive difference to their life.
Following the launch of the campaign, Mencap Direct, the charity’s national freephone telephone service, received a 67 per cent increase in calls.
Mencap Direct offers free information and advice about learning disability and enables individuals wishing to set themselves new goals, such as learning skills or taking up a hobby, to speak to an advisor to discuss their needs in more detail and help them set plans and find the support that's right for them.
It is estimated that there are more than 2,102 people in Darlington with a learning disability.
Karla Sloggett, Mencap’s senior marketing manager, said: “Mencap supports thousands of people with a learning disability to live life the way they choose. Through our annual New year, New me campaign, we want to support people with a learning disability in Darlington achieve their goals in 2013.
“Setting new goals is a great way to start the year but sticking to them is not always easy, especially for people with a learning disability who can find everyday tasks difficult.”
