KARATE kid James Curtis is making his mark in the tough world of martial arts.
A member of Hambleton Karate Club, the 14-year-old from Northallerton took part in a national competition, taking on some of the best in the country.
And he took bronze in the Kata discipline, in the performing Pinan Godan Learning and Physical Disability Category, at the English Coloured Belt Championships in Sheffield.
More than 500 people from all over the country competed in the annual event – four of them coming from the Northallerton club.
Coach Sarah Sheridan said: “This is a great achievement for the club and for the students.
“To achieve this level so quickly is brilliant - it is only their third competition and they are already competing at national level.
“The squad is competing in competitions in both March and April and at this rate we expect to have members in squad for the British Championships later in the year.”
Hambleton Karate Club meets every Wednesday night and Saturday afternoon at Hambleton Leisure Centre. There are classes for beginners and advanced enthusiasts.
