A MAN who shouted and swore at his partner’s brother while holding a kitchen knife appeared at court today (Wednesday, February 6).
Stephen Leonard Gair, of Ravensworth Court, South Hetton, pleaded guilty to using threatening and abusive words and behaviour at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates Court.
John Garside, prosecuting, said Gair’s girlfriend had called the police to her home in St John’s Court, Kirk Merrington, near Spennymoor, on November 27.
A dispute was ongoing between Gair, 22, and the victim, with both parties shouting and swearing at each other.
Gair, who has no previous convictions, was holding a kitchen knife at the time and the court heard how a two-year-old child was present.
George Tilley, mitigating, said Gair had feared for his safety, adding: “He felt threatened and intimidated but accepts standing at the backdoor with a knife is not the way to behave.”
The case was adjourned until February 27 for probation reports.
