Gentlemen's evening raises £6,000 for charities
A GENTLEMEN'S fundraising evening at the Arden Arms, Atley Hill, near Scorton, has raised £4,000 for Cancer Research UK and £2,000 for Herriot Hospice Homecare.
Organisers have thanked former racehorse trainer David Barker and the new landlords of the pub, Graham and Pam Lee, for their donations at the event, which was attended by 160 people.
Farmer Graham Clark, of South Cowton, said: "This was a fantastic result from the event which was fully booked."
MOVIE TIMES: The volunteer-run cinema at Hambleton Forum, Northallerton, will screen Life Of Pi (PG), on Sunday (February 17), at 5.30pm, The Hobbit (12A), at 1.30pm on Monday (February 18) and Tinkerbell And The Secret Of The Wings (U), at 1.30pm next Wednesday (February 20).
CONSERVATIVE PARTY: Thirsk and Malton MP Anne McIntosh joined Judy Bell, of Shepherds Purse Cheeses and James Goodhart, of Bon Coeur Fine Wines and 70 party supporters in Raskelf village hall to learn more about the Thirsk and Masham-based firms.
HISTORIC SHOW: A dramatised account of the treatment of dissidents who joined a late 16th-century attempt to establish a permanent English settlement in North Carolina will be performed at Thorpe Prebend House, High St Agnesgate, Ripon, at 3pm on Sunday (February 17). Tickets to the Ripon Cathedral Friends event cost £2.50 for members and £4 for guests.

SPORTING SUCCESS: Thirsk School’s under-14s girls basketball team has beaten St Aidan’s School, in Harrogate, 45-26 to become the North Yorkshire County Champions. The team will now represent the county at the regional finals on Tuesday, March 12, at Leeds Metropolitan University.
