AN MP has organised a series of surgeries for people affected by benefits, including those being hit by the "bedroom tax”.
Officially known as the Under Occupancy Charge, the bedroom tax will see tenants lose an average of £13 per week if they have a spare room.
It will be introduced in April and Sedgefield MP Phil Wilson is concerned about the impact it will have to residents in his constituency.
Representatives from the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and housing associations, such as livin and East Durham Housing, will attend the surgeries, with the first taking place at the Youth Centre in Burn Lane, Newton Aycliffe, on Saturday, February 16, from 10am to noon.
Surgeries will also be held at St Luke’s Church Hall, Church Lane, Ferryhill, from 1.30pm to 4pm on Monday, February 18; Trimdon Village Hall on Holgarth Road from 10am to noon on Wednesday, February 20; and Wingate Community Centre on Front Street from 1pm to 4pm on Friday, February 22.
