Musical-themed workshop a success

DRAMA-MAD youngsters have enjoyed taking part in a Les Miserables-themed half term workshop.

Hosted by Darlington Arts Academy and held at Hummersknott Academy on Monday (February 18) and Tuesday, the sessions saw participants create a performance based on the hit musical.

Rebecca McGarvie, the academy’s creative director, said: “The sessions have gone really well, the children have done an amazing job.

“Les Mis is an extensive show, so we have done an abridged version, but they have been eating it up.”

The organisation previously operated weekly sessions, but was forced to close due to a lack of funding.

However, overwhelming support from parents and local businesses has enabled the academy to be resurrected in a reduced format, run by volunteers and funded by donations.

Ms McGarvie said the Les Mis workshops would be followed by similar sessions in the Easter holidays.
