Free computer classes offered to council tenants in Crook and Bishop Auckland
12:13pm Tuesday 19th February 2013 in News By Duncan Leatherdale
COUNCIL tenants in Wear Valley are being offered the chance to learn computer skills for free.
The courses are being offered by Dale and Valley Homes to all its customers to help prepare people for changes in the way welfare benefits are paid.
Amy Glendinning, customer involvement manager, said: “Soon people will have to apply for benefits and manage their claims online but we know that many of our customers do not have a computer at home and many have never used a computer.
“We want to help as many people as possible to cope with the changes and, in conjunction with Bishop Auckland College, we are offering courses to customers.
“They would begin with a level one course to learn basic skills and could progress to level two if they wanted to.
“Some customers have tried this already and have found it very interesting and useful.”
Any Dale and Valley Homes customer who is interested in the courses, which can be accessed in Bishop Auckland or in Crook, should contact the customer involvement team on 0800-0830-333.
