Free bus to Durham Free School

CHILDREN attending County Durham’s first free school will be able to travel by free bus.

Durham Free School is to run a free bus service covering Durham, Croxdale, Tudhoe, Spennymoor, Coxhoe, Kelloe, Cassop, Park Hill, Bowburn and Shincliffe.

Headteacher Peter Cantley said: “The Free School agenda is all about creating more choice for parents, especially where, for no other reason than the geographical location of their home, parents have a restricted choice of schools.

“As well as serving our immediate local community, we will want to provide access to the school for children in the south and east of Durham who have been adversely affected by distance related criteria in school admissions policies.”

The school, which will be directly funded by and responsible to the Department for Education (DfE), is set to open with 60 year seven pupils in September but no location has yet been announced.

A decision from the DfE is expected shortly.

Applications for places can be made until the end of this term, online at thedurhamfreeschool.org.uk
