Karate students to compete in championship
1:47pm Wednesday 20th February 2013 in News
YOUNGSTERS are seeking sponsors to help them to cover the cost of competing in a national karate competition.
Members of the Chikara Dojo of Kyokushin Karate Club, in Spennymoor, are preparing for the Kyokushin English Championships.
The 11 youngsters taking part in the competition in March are taking extra weekend training sessions.
They will take part in a sponsored training session to raise funds to cover the cost of attending the competition.
The club is offering a mountain bike as a prize to the person who raises the most sponsorship money.
Chief Instructor Adam Walker said: “We have been working hard towards this competition and we hope to do well this time around.
“In previous competitions students from our club have punched and kicked well above their weight to beat opposition from much bigger clubs with much bigger catchment areas.”
Anyone interested in sponsoring the club’s training session should contact Mr Walker on 0771-3411-1198.
Details on the club can be obtained from Mr Walker or by emailing spennykarate@hotmail.com or on-line at www.spennymoorkarate.co.uk.
