Youngsters' project to improve cycling skills and awareness
12:18pm Tuesday 26th February 2013 in News
YOUNG people are to working to promote cycling as part of a healthy lifestyle.
Cycling charity Sustrans is working with pupils from Sunnydale Community College, in Shildon, on the scheme.
The group hopes to create posters, maps of the local area highlighting appropriate cycle ways and films of the pupil’s own cycling stories.
Younger pupils will also work with the charity on a cycling scheme.
These pupils will create posters and take part in sessions to improve confidence and enthusiasm for cycling to school.
A school spokesman said: “It will improve the pupils’ safety and it will have other benefits for the local community.
“Walking and cycling also provide everyday exercise and encourage children to be more active and healthy.”
