A PLANNING application has been submitted for permission for food establishments to form part of an out of town shopping complex.
Four extra retail units were given the go-ahead on the Bishop Auckland Shopping Park, in St Helen Auckland, last year, but now Metric Properties wants this to be changed to allow for restaurants and takeaways instead.
Work on the second phase has not yet started, however the first part of the scheme was completed last year and a number of major national retailers, including Next and Simply Food have started trading.
McDonalds, KFC, Starbucks and Costa, together with Sainsbury’s and Tesco are already open for business in the area.
A separate plan by Land Planning Partnership was submitted in December for a leisure complex, which would include a cinema, retail shops and restaurants, for the 24acres of waste land next to the West Auckland bypass.
Both applications will be determined by Durham County Council in the coming months.
