Darlington beekeeping course ends in sweet success

A GROUP of bee enthusiasts will be buzzing this week, when months of hard work come to a conclusion.

The latest group of beekeepers in the Darlington Beekeepers Association (DBKA) will complete a training course they have been working on.

Lenny Mutton, Roger Chappell and Graham Lindsay, of the association, have been leading the course, which covers all aspects of practical beekeeping.

A graduation ceremony will be held at Hurworth Grange Community Centre, at 7pm, on Monday (March 4).

DBKA chairman Mr Mutton said: “My fellow DBKA members and I have been pleased and impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment shown by all the students who have attended the Hurworth beekeeping course.

“It is particularly gratifying to see so many new bee keepers getting involved in this fascinating and rewarding hobby.

A special vote of thanks must go to the Heritage Lottery Fund, which has been so supportive of the work the DBKA undertakes, and has made possible this and other training programmes we have undertaken within the community.

“Its continuing support will enable us to help individuals and community groups throughout Darlington to get involved and stay involved in the fascinating and important craft that is beekeeping.”
