Planners to debate application for four houses in Neasham

PLANS to build four houses in a village on the outskirts of Darlington have been recommended for approval despite concerns from local residents.

The application for four detached dwellings on land to the rear of an existing property off New Lane, in Neasham, has been described by planning officials at Darlington Borough Council as “sensitively designed and incorporated well within this village setting”.

The plans have attracted 12 letters of objection from residents, who have raised concerns about the need for new properties in the village, damage to the character of Neasham and highways issues.

Neasham Parish Council has given its backing to the plans and an officer from the Highways Agency has raised no objections.

The application will be discussed by members of Darlington Borough Council’s planning committee on Wednesday (March 12).

In a report prepared for councillors, a planning officer noted: “The design and layout of the development is acceptable and would not have an adverse impact upon the character and appearance of the street scene within the village of Neasham.

“The proposal has no significant impact in terms of loss of daylight or sunlight to neighbouring dwellings and maintains adequate levels of privacy.”
