Big Eat visits Durham

A NEW street market is visiting Durham.

The Big Eat arrived in the Market Place today (Thursday, March 7) and will run until Sunday (March 10).

Today, Councillor John Wilkinson, the Mayor of Durham, visited to meet traders and sample some of the food on offer.

The Big Eat is organised by The Market Square Group and promotes ethical and eco-friendly, artisan and traceable produce, from local sources and across the globe.

The market includes world food plus art, crafts, clothing, jewellery and accessories.

Spokesman Paul Kennedy said: “Goods and foods made by hand to original designs and recipes will be on offer by traders who can show an in-depth knowledge of the origin and traceability of their products.

“We insist all street food stalls clearly list their ingredients and have full knowledge of their sources – which is local where possible.”

There will also be live music from violinist and pianist Andrew Hubbard.

Colin Wilkes, managing director of Durham Markets, said he was delighted to welcome the venture to the city.
