Police plea after middle-aged pair attacked
5:22pm Thursday 7th March 2013 in News
POLICE are appealing for information after two middle-aged men were assaulted in Chester-le-Street town centre.
It happened between midnight and 2am on Sunday, February 24 as the victims, both in their mid-forties walked to the taxi rank on Front Street after finishing their night out at the Black Horse pub.
At the taxi rank they were targeted and assaulted by a younger man in what appears to have been a completely unprovoked attack.
The suspect was white, in his late twenties, of stocky or 'powerful' build and with short, fair hair. During the assault he removed his top and stood over his victims bare-chested before running away along Front Street.
One of the victims suffered cuts and bruises while his friend was more seriously hurt, sustaining fractures to both wrists.
"We know a number of people will have been present in and around the town centre at that time,” said Det Con Allen Richardson, of the local serious crime team.
“If anyone saw the assault, or saw the attacker running off bare-chested I would urge them to get in touch, either directly or via Crimestoppers if they prefer to stay anonymous."
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
