PARENTS have just a few days left to apply for places for their children to join a new free school.

The deadline for applications for children to start Durham Free School when it opens for 60 year seven pupils only in September is Thursday, March 28.

Recently, headteacher Peter Cantley told a public meeting in Bowburn that applying did not affect applications to other schools and families had nothing to lose and everything to gain by applying.

The free school will be directly funded by and responsible to the Government, not Durham County Council.

It will serve villages south and east of Durham City. A school site is expected to be announced shortly.

Parents should know where the school will be based before applying for a place as I for one would not apply for a school of which had no named site as I would like to know how far my child would be expected to travel safely and if I would be able to get there in a hurry if my child took ill and I am sure some parents would share my views. however my children are not the right age for this school so rules me out anyways .
