NOVEL DINNER: Historical novelist Philippa Gregory will sign books at a lunch to raise funds for women’s educational schemes and teacher training in Africa. HEALTH CHECK: Scans for risk of osteoporosis will be available on Monday, March 25, from noon to 2pm, at Thirsk Town Hall, 3pm to 5pm, at Northallerton Forum, and on Tuesday, March 26, from 9am to noon, at Richmond Town Hall. ON TRACK: Northallerton’s branch of the Wensleydale Railway will meet on Monday, (March 18), at 7.30pm, at Northallerton Cricket Club, Farndale Avenue, for a talk by Stephen Middleton titled Vintage Carriages to Autocar.
BOOKED UP: Thirsk School has celebrated World Book Day by providing pupils with a £1 book token for one of eight specially published World Book Day £1 books. The school’s Learning Resource Centre held several competitions including a Roman mysteries book quiz, Cathy Cassidy word search and to design a book mark.
MUSEUM OPENS: Thirsk Museum, in Kirkgate, will reopen for the summer on Monday, March 25 .The museum opens from 10am to 4pm, except on Thursdays and Sundays when it is closed. For details, call 01845-527707 or visit thirskmuseum.org

NUMBERS UP: A domino drive will be held in Kirby Sigston village hall next Wednesday, (March 20) at 8pm. Entry costs £3 and includes supper. Proceeds will go towards the village hall.
QUIZ SESSION: Ladies of Thirsk Chamber of Trade will hold a quiz night at Thirsk Athletic Club, Newsham Road, on Tuesday, (March 19), from 7.30pm. LIVE MUSIC: Singer-guitarist Marc Atkinson will perform at the Frankland Arms, Ingramgate, Thirsk, on Wednesday, (March 20) from 8pm.
