North Durham news in brief

An open day will be held at Goldstitch in Front Street, Nettlesworth, near Chester-le-Street, from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, March 16.

There will be a range of hand-made items on display. Goldstitch, run by embroiderer Jean Westgarth and her daughter, Jennifer aims to develop people's skills.

WATERCOLOUR CLASS: Age UK County Durham will hold a watercolour class for the over 50s at its resource centre in Betjeman Close, East Stanley, on Thursdays from 1.30pm to 3pm. The cost is £2 per session, including materials. For further information contact 01207-280119.

AFTERNOON TEA: Afternoon tea and prize bingo sessions will be held at the Age UK County Durham Resource Centre in Betjeman Close, East Stanley, at 1.30pm on Wednesdays. COMMUNITY MURAL: The office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Durham has applied to Durham County Council for permission to create a community mural at the entrance to Peterlee Police Station. Consideration is pending.

PERMISSION GRANTED: Durham County Council planning officers have granted permission to JD Wetherspoon to install illuminated and non-illuminated signs at the Hat & Feathers at 57 to 59 Church Street, in Seaham.
