School hosts young farmers' event

A SACRISTON school was the venue for a weekend of competitions for young farners.

County Durham Federation of Young Farmer Clubs hosted the annual Northern Area of Young Farmers Competitions Weekend at Fyndoune Community College.

The event was the northern final for a competitions including drama, ballroom dancing, public speaking, member of the year, and this year’s chosen sports football, dodgeball, rounders and ultimate frisbee.

The organising committee has thanked the many judges, referees, stewards and scorers that played a vital role throughout the weekend and Fyndoune Community College.

Joint Northern Area Weekend chairman Caroline Baker said: “ I was thrilled to have been involved in such a successful and enjoyable weekend.

“We had a superb team of people and fantastic competitors who I would like thank enormously for helping to make it a weekend to remember.”

Co-chairman Katie Sanderson said: “I was honoured to have been involved in such an enjoyable weekend that saw huge success for all of the counties in Northern Area.

“It was a fantastic opportunity to work with a great team of people who helped to make this weekend such a success.”

The overall winners of the event were Cumbria A, followed closely by Cumbria B and then Yorkshire A. All winners from each competition will go on to represent Northern Area at the national finals.
