Energetic fitness fans take part in fundraiser

FITNESS fans used their energy for a worthwhile cause when they took part in a lively fundraising event in Ferryhill at the weekend.

Disco Bokwa Inferno saw participants enjoy the dance inspired exercise craze in a nightclub style setting, with flashing lights, enthusiastic instructors and hit music dating from the 1970s to the present day.

The event, at Ferryhill Community Hub yesterday (Sunday, March 17), raised £286 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

Bokwa instructor Joleen Hilary, who led the class alongside Bowka expert Vicki Davis, organised the event as a thank-you to her own teacher, Bunny Whitehead, who has close links to the charity.

“Bunny really inspired me and gave me the confidence to become an instructor,” said Ms Hilary. “I know the charity is close to her heart so it was my way of giving something back.

“It was also a way of raising awareness of Bokwa.”

Ms Hilary teaches Bokwa at Trimdon Grange Community at 6.15pm on Mondays, Ferryhill Community Hub at 7.15pm on Thursdays and Chilton Community College at 6.30pm on Fridays.

Sessions cost from £3.50 to £4.

New students are always welcome.
