Snow continued to fall in the region today (Wednesday, March 20), despite it being the Spring Equinox.

Despite that, Spring still seems a long way away - and the wintry weather is forecast to continue with light flurries over the next few days and a heavy blast of snow over the weekend.

Today's (Wednesday, March 20) snowfall is expected to clear overnight as the skies clear.

However, temperatures will not rise above five degrees at best as the weekend nears.

Friday will see the return of heavier snow storms and weather forecasters warn there is no end in sight for the bitter conditions.

A spokesman for the MeteoGroup said: “Looking at the forecast for the next ten days there is no sign of any warmer weather or spring.

“Saturday looks like being the worst day this week with heavy snowfall forecast Friday night into Saturday. It will be very cold with temperatures reaching about three degrees.”
