Wind farm cash for community groups

COMMUNITY groups living near a wind farm have been given thousands of pounds in grants.
The six-turbine Kiln Pit Hill Wind Farm was built in 2012 by power company RWE npower renewables.
The company has now paid £15,000 in grants through the Kiln Pit Hill Wind Farm Community Fund to projects in the Derwent Valley.
St John’s Church Hall, at Snods Edge, has been awarded £6,000 to buy for secure storage and shelving to be used by the parent and toddler group.
John Affleck from the Shotley Saint John’s Hall said: "The funding received from the wind farm fund will make a significant contribution to improving the facilities at the hall and various local groups will benefit from this".
Another recipient was Shotely Low Quarter Parish Council, which received £6,000 to improve traffic calming signage, restore a Grade II-listed stone wall, replace community notice boards and renew the parish council computer system.
