David Bellamy opens Bishop Auckland school's teepee

YOUNGSTERS at a Bishop Auckland primary school have held a science day to celebrate the opening of their Nordic teepee.

Botanist David Bellamy visited Evergreen Primary School today (Friday, March 22) to take a look at the new 24ft Nordic structure, which will be used as an outdoor classroom.

Pupils, who have special needs and behavioural issues, spent the day demonstrating their science skills and making crafts to sell.

In addition, there was a dry ice magic show and activities for parents and teachers.

A butterfly launch to mark the day had to be postponed due to the bad weather but is expected to take place in the next few weeks.

Teacher Faye James, who helped organise the day, said: “It has been a lovely day, everything has gone really well and the children have enjoyed it.”
