OFFICIALS of an food project are planning to cook up a new directory aimed at non-meat eaters in the region.

An appeal for information about eateries which serve vegetarian options has been made by local food project Love Food to coincide with National Vegetarian Week, May 21–27.

The project, which supports the production, promotion, use and appreciation of locally grown or reared food in Teesdale, Weardale, the Allen Valleys and Derwentside, wants to form a web-based directory of cafes, pubs, restaurants and other eateries which cater for vegetarians, using local produce.

It would also like to list those who have options for vegans and those with coeliac disease.

Hazel Coppack, director of Love Food, said: “I get a number of enquiries from people wanting to know where they can get good quality vegetarian, vegan and coeliac options, particularly using local produce.

“We know there are some great places out there and as vegetarian week is coming up, we thought it would be a good idea to put together a directory of eateries from our area on our website – www.lovefood.me - so anyone wanting those options have a single point of information.”

Eateries wishing to be included should email details to: lovefood@teesdalemarketing.co.uk.
