Bishop Auckland terraced house damaged in fire
A TERRACED house has been severely damaged after a blaze broke out in the early hours of this morning (Saturday, May 4).
Two fire crews were sent to Deanery Court in Eldon Lane, near Bishop Auckland, County Durham, at 12.50am following reports of a garden store on fire.
However, when firefighers arrived they discovered the fire had spread to the house, with the downstairs well alight.
The residents had evacuated the property, but one woman had to be treated for smoke inhalation.
Firefighters put out the blaze in 50 minutes and managed to contain it to the one property.
An investigation is now underway to determine the cause.
Rob Turnbull, district manager of County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue, said: “There was a smoke alarm in the property and tests are being carried out to see if it was working at the time.
“I would encourage anyone without a smoke alarm to book one of our free home fire safety visits.”
