THE Countess of Durham is suing over alleged phone hacking by the News of the World. Marina Lambton, a former model who married Ned Lambton, the Earl of Durham, in 2011, has filed a civil claim against Rupert Murdoch’s News UK group at the High Court in London.

FATAL CRASH: A 64-year-old woman and her dog have been killed in a crash on the B6395, in Prudhoe, Northumberland. The incident happened while the woman was walking the dog at about 10.25pm on Saturday (July 13). A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. RAPE ARRESTS: Two men, aged 47 and 24, have been arrested following an alleged rape in Newcastle on Friday night (July 12). Anyone who can help the police enquiry is asked to call Northumbria Police on 101.

FIVE HELD: Three men, one aged 54 and two aged 22, and two women, aged 19 and 24, have been arrested following a fight on Ferguson’s Lane, Scotswood, Newcastle, on Friday night (July 12). All those involved are believed to know each other.

WOMAN DETAINED: A woman in her 30s has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after a man in his 20s was assaulted at a house on Thornton Close, Washington, Wearside, late on Friday night (July 12). The man suffered puncture wounds to his arm and was taken to hospital. His condition is not thought to be life threatening. Anyone with information is asked to call Northumbria Police on 101.

HOUSE BURGLARY: Thieves have stolen thousands of pounds worth of items from a house on The Oaks West, in Sunderland. The items taken included a Soney video camera, a Nikon digital camera, an Olympus SLR camera, an Apple iMac computer, an Apple Mac laptop, two iPod nanos, two televisions, two Nikon camera lenses, two Olympus camera lenses, four computer hard drives, two suitcases, personal documents, a woman’s gold watch, a man’s Armani silver watch and jewellery. A blue Citroen Saxo parked outside, registration Y831 XAS, was also taken. The burglary took place between 2am and 11.45am on Saturday, June 29.
