Residents invited to try America's favourite pastime

SPORTING CHANCE: A baseball team is inviting Thirsk and Sowerby residents to try America's national pastime. After holding a three-hour have-a-go session on Sowerby Flatts, Andrew Tulloch, of Sowerby, said: “We came to give anyone who wanted a taste of the game and, hopefully, an enjoyable afternoon having a look at something new. AFTERNOON TEAS: A strawberry tea and cakes event to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care will be held at Oak Lodge bed and breakfast, Jenkins Garth, Leyburn, on Saturday, August 31, from 1pm. Laura Hilton and her mother, Lynne, who are running the fundraiser, said entry is free, but visitors would be asked for donations. Mrs Hilton said: “We have friends who have had breast cancer and it is in the family, so it is close to our hearts.”
EQUESTRIAN FUNRAISER: A tack and togs sale, including a barbecue, fun dog competition, tombola and a prize draw, will be held at Northallerton Equestrian Centre, on Bank Holiday (Monday, August 26), from 6.30pm.
