A STORE is making its charity book donation scheme permanent.
Staff at the Wilko store, in Osbourne Road, Chester-le-Street, raised £120 for the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) with an in-store book sale and loan scheme.
Over four weeks, the team donated and collected books from friends, family and customers and sold or loaned them for donations.
The scheme has been so successful that it is to continue and the store is appealing for people to donate books.
Manager Debbie Stainsby said: “The response from the local community to our book scheme has been fantastic.
“We were overwhelmed with the donations of books and funds that we received.
“We just want more used and unwanted books now so we can add to this amount for GNAAS, which is such a worthwhile charity in our area.”
Mandy Drake, GNAAS head of fundraising, said: “We’d like to extend our thanks to the Wilko team and its loyal customers so another great fundraising scheme.
“We’re extremely grateful for all the support they giving us. It’s great that this fundraiser involved books too, showing we’re all still a nation of readers!”
