Etherley pub closed
THE final pint has been pulled at a village pub. The Dog and Gun, at Etherley, near Bishop Auckland, closed earlier this month and has been sold to a private buyer by Punch Taverns.
The pub is the latest business in the village to disappear following the closure of the village shop and post office earlier this year, however, drinkers can still enjoy a pint at The Sportsman, in Toft Hill, or Etherley Cricket Club.
The Dog and Gun has been acquired by David Burns, from Bishop Auckland, who plans to turn the pub into a family home.
He said a planning application would be submitted to Durham County Council for the change of use and the conversion work.
“We are not turning it into flats or anything like that. It is just going to be fenced off and made into a house,” he added.
