Underthreat church choir in Shildon hits the right note after recruiting new members
12:07pm Tuesday 27th August 2013 in News
A CHURCH choir which only had three members and was in danger of closing has been saved after an influx of new singers.
Over the years the number of singers in the choir at St John’s Church, Shildon, dropped and they were not replaced.
Choir practice ended and finally only three stalwarts continued to sing at events in the church.
The enthusiasm of Daniel Coates as choir master and organist has reversed the trend as new members have come forward to swell the ranks.
Reverend David Tomlinson, vicar of St John’s, said: “It’s great to have choir led worship in the church.
“Music has always being a big part of the life of St John’s and it’s lovely to see such enthusiasm in the life of the church.”
Anyone wishing to become involved in the choir should contact Rev Tomlinson on 01388-778998 or simply call in at the church.
